Assume the Position

(Entry below was written on January 23, 2006)

I saw the movie Secretary last night. It wasn’t like any other movie I’ve seen before, really interesting and sort of sweet in a weird way. It’s a love story that had an ending that I didn’t expect.

I thought it was supposed to be all shock value S&M kind of stuff, and there was some of that, but also a lot more. Maggie Gyllenhaal played her part to perfection. The ending felt a bit unrealistic to me, but it made me happy. I guess that’s why it’s a movie and not real life.

Maybe it resonated with me because it’s like an old-fashioned romance. I mean in the sense that the male is the dominant one. It’s not like the recent movies that have seen the Girl Next Door turn into a porn star. Where the hell did that come from? Aren’t ‘girls next door’ supposed to be sweet and innocent?

I read this article yesterday about dating good-looking men. It’s tough because they are constantly being hit on by attractive women, and women who don’t give a damn if the guy is already with someone. They just don’t care.

Girls are so predatory these days, so it’s nice to see the man take control for once. These days, attractive guys just have to sit back and wait for the girls to do it all. I guess I’m just an old-fashioned romantic at heart. My ex-boyfriend once told me that I should have been born 100 years ago. Maybe then I’d find the dominant, aggressive man of my dreams. Sometimes, a girl just wants to swoon and be swept off her feet.
